The Rotary Volunteerism Award is an initative where the Rotary Club of Gaborone recognises the contribution to the community by a post graduate student at the University of Botswana. Wendy Ramokate had made the short list and she was invited to a club meeting in November 2009 where she gave a talk on what she had been doing within the community. She has been a volunteer at and a fundraiser for the Holy Cross Hospice Pre School, a voluntary counsellor at the Kids Club, an Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Sub Program, and a voluntary teacher at the Boswa Primary and the University of Botswana Child Lab.
The club selection committee felt that Wendy had demonstrated that she was prepared to go beyond the normal call of duty and had displayed values of care andccompassion. It was felt that she was the best candidate and would be a worthy recipient of the Rotary award.
